On May 27th, 2012, Hickory Jazz Orchestra proudly brings back to our community:
The Hickory Downtown Development Association presents "Swinging Under the Stars" with the Hickory Jazz Orchestra. The swing dance/big band performance was formed five years ago by Rick Cline with help from the United Arts Council in beautiful downtown Hickory. "Swinging Under the Stars" honors the memories of veterans by celebrating the Big Band Era on Memorial Day Weekend, Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Last year HDDA welcomed more than 2,000 people to the event. In 2010, the event was recognized by the NC Department of Commerce's Main Street Center as the "Best Downtown Event in North Carolina." This year's "Swinging Under the Stars" will be host to four local school bands: Northview Middle, Hickory High, Bandy's High and Maiden High School jazz bands. The event will begin at 6:00 pm with the dedication of the cannon followed by a swing dance. Sponsors for this event include the City of Hickory, Old Hickory Taproom, and the Hickory Music Factory. "Swinging Under the Stars" is a free event and open to the public.
